And the beat goes on !

Work continues on the hangar despite the cold and wind we have been experiencing of late. With the North wall and machine room completed the focus is on the South face with the placing of a combination of structural timber and steel bracing as required. Steve got his torch fired up and with a little help from his friends Roger Thurlow and Don Oakes, drilled, cut and welded the steel supports for the South face.

Pitching in as well were Captain "Stogy" Hughes and Captain Greg " I won't get lost in the Maine woods" Vince. Of course the ever present high wire act, Chief Pfeiffer and " Little Fox" with camera were kept busy by "El Presidente"
Limping Ox flew in one day with his personally restored PA12, and an envious odd looking visiting pilot was impressed.
On Sunday, February 18,Ted Russell, GE employee and member of Plum Island Community Airfield, gave a 45-minute slide presentation for the Explorers program sponsored by the Essex National Heritage Commission, followed by 20 minutes of questions. About 40 visitors were in attendance. Most of the talk was on the 1910 Burgess flights and the significant role the Essex County and the Burgess Company had in early aviation. Charlie Eaton and Bert Noyes were there to help out with questions on more recent history.
The talk was given at the auditorium at the Parker River Wildlife Refuge HQ. Ted voiced his appreciation to the Refuge folks providing the space on such short notice. It was appropriate that they were involved, considering the 1910 flights took place on what is now the refuge, but their hospitality was what made the show a success. After the slide show, all moved over to the Burgess Aviation Museum, where Charlie showed his models. Charlie and Bert took some boys from the St. John's Prep flying club over to the hangar so they could see the current projects in progress and hear what was projected for the future. As a result of the show, Ted has two future showings. One will be at the Spencer-Peirce-Little farm on June 9, which we hope anyone who missed the February show can attend, and the other for a group of GE retirees in August.
Some future events being planned are “kite flying day”, archery contests, and of course the Spring fly-in. We will post the dates here as well as in the local papers.
