Santa Was Early

In Newburyport, on the Saturday after Thanksgiving, Santa and Mrs. Claus come ashore, disembarking from a US Coast Guard Ship at the city dock. But on Monday before Thanksgiving he sent a flatbed with the makings of a new hangar for 2B2 compliments of his busy elf, Steve Noyes. So for five days all the elves came down from the Pole and assembled the building. Of course we took Thanksgiving off to celebrate and give thanks for many things, including the hangar and 100LL avgas now available @ $3.50/GAL. The construction of the hangar would not have been possible, as it were, without Jerry Brodmerckle and sons, their rigging expertise and equipment. .
After a slow start on Monday, Steve rounded up more help and a manlift which expedited the effort. It was nice to see the Walton, Dowling and Noyes kids together like that. The last time that happened they were playing in a sand box that Bob built for Debbie. The work began in earnest on Tuesday with one group fabricating on the ground while Jerry and sons put on oxygen masks and worked at a higher altitude.
At any given time people were showing up and asking how they could help. It was like the barn raising days of the past. Butch put down his shotgun long enough to work both at ground level and at altitude.
Work continued into the night with the help of flood lights and good weather. By Sunday evening the last arch was in place and the hangar looked great. Work is continuing to close off the back and front walls. The next phase will be the design and construction of the interior.
I think Steve is happy......so are we!!
