It Was a Grand Opening

High northwest winds on Saturday,October 21 didn't stand in the way of the first day of Plum Island Aerodrome's open house and cookout. Steve and Tina Noyes hosted a great weekend of fun, food and flying. Saturday began with a visit from Arthur Allen, Massachusetts Aeronautics Commissioner, and Reed Hillman, candidate for Lt. Governor in order to present Steve with a citation for the beginning of a new era for 2B2 under Plum Island Aerodrome Inc. Standing in front of the Birddog from left to right is Arthur Allen, the windblown Tina Noyes, Steve, Reed Hillman, Tom Schinkel, and Linda Allen.
The Birddog was hauled out for the presentation by the proud owners without assistance but you know the old saying,"the family that pushes together etc., etc."
In spite of the windy conditions Saturday, Roger Brul, Chief Pilot and his crew from Boston Helicopter, brought in the Eurocopter EC120 and gave rides both days. The ride over the beach was enjoyed by many.
Steve and his band of volunteers helped with the loading operation. Speaking of volunteers our go-to man Butch Crook was "Johnny on the Spot"(or is that Potty on the Spot?)with the ever required outdoor plumbing. Butch tried in vain to get a jump plane in for Sunday but all were booked.
Squadron 7 was well represented with a few Navions and a couple of cubs. Mike Hughs left the Birddog home and brought the Comanche in and then took John Woods up to Portland to retrieve his Turbo Commander so that he could swing it down low over 2B2.
Al Speckman brought in his Waco and more than few taildraggers pulled in. Of course who else would slip in to the grass but Chief Limping Ox (Dennis Dowling for the uninformed)in his Super Cub.
Good old Dick Monahan, once again drove all the way down..or is that up from northern Maine to help out and enjoy the celebration. Dick was signed on as assistant chef by Tina and the both were well smoked as they cooked hot dogs and hamburgers for the crowd both days. Thank you Tina and Dick. Thanks Steve and all those who pitched in. Hang on for more photos tommorow plus news on the fuel tank.
