Come on in!!
The Hangar party was a great success thanks to the hard work of the tried and true volunteers and the good folks that showed up and took part in the celebration. The kids had a great time with the pony rides and folks kept Roger and his helicopter busy with rides around the Island. Our Maine transplants, Dick and Gerrard( Jughead to his friends),kept the crowd fed with burgers and dogs and yours truly added some mussels ala Belgique, done in brown beer and a special sauce. The weather cooperated and all was well at 2B2.
(Who are those guys?)
Speaking of the weather,it finally looks like flying weather so.... fly in, drive in, but make sure you come in, on the 9th of June, to Plum Island Aerodrome and enjoy the camaraderie ,antique aircraft, helicopter rides, pony rides for the kids, and food and beverage. Take in a vintage baseball game played using 1860's rules at the adjoining Spencer-Pierce-Little farm.Ted Russell, former president of Plum Island Community Airfield, and aerodrome historian, will be giving a lecture on the history of the airport at the Wildlife Headquarters auditorium, next to the farm. So make a day of it and enjoy. By the way the boys from Maine will be back to do their culinary magic.
The last few weeks have seen the finishing touches on the hangar and a fair amount of activity, servicing two birddogs and the refurbishment begun on a third. Chief Pfieffer's project Champ is in in an array of boxes waiting for the process of restoration to begin. Meanwhile Chief Pfieffer is getting in some flying time in taildragger and nose gear machines.
The jolly crew of volunteers have been doing an excellent job of keeping the Aerodrome looking great.
The grass runway has drawn raves from transient pilots and the positive comments continue to pour in. We are always looking for volunteers with time or money or both so check in with the boys at 2B2 and join in the flying fun.
