Foggy Day on Plum Island

It's good to have a rain date when planning events around an airport. The fly-in was scheduled for Saturday, June 9, but actually turned out to be a two day event, due to the fog and light rain on Saturday. With ceilings at runway level there were no flying arrivals;but some brave ones made it in for blueberry pancakes, eggs and sausage and assorted breakfast goodies. All were cooked up by that famous traveling chef from Maine, Gerrard, (Jughead to his friends), who was chauffeured down the pike by Dick Monahan. The breakfast was such a hit that folks stayed for burgers and dogs later in the day. The skydivers were grounded but still lovely Linda Ducharme sent a special cake along with Dangerous Dennis, who was seen making his way in the fog to deliver the baked specialty.
The early birds enjoyed some hangar flying in spite of the fog. Sunday brought some good weather and the boys took to the skies arriving at 2B2 for some fun, food and refreshments.Butch Crook made it official with the aerial delivery of the Stars and Stripes and Squadron 7 returned with their warbirds instead of the four wheel vehicles used on Saturday.
Palatnick was there early with his highly visible yellow RV-4, while Limping Ox kept his PA-12 under wraps and attended by ground transportation. All in all the weekend went well and Commandant Noyes and his squad did a good job. Photo credits to George Kelly for the pics of Butchy w/flag, O-2 and Tom Schinkel's Navion, and Palatnick's yellow bird. Coming soon.... The annual members and guests cook-out. Check here and at the airport for date and time.
