Autumn Leaves

October brought some great foliage to the aerodrome even though the weather was spring like.So here it is November and we are getting the intro to winter without the tempering, of an Indian summer. The aerodrome was honored in October with a visit from Larry and Laura Frothingham. Larry is the grandson of Warren Frothingham and the son of Everett Frothingham who died a hero, as a navy pilot in World War ll. Warren and Johnny Polando ran a passenger, mail service and pilot training operation at the airport from 1937 till 1942. Polando left to go to the service and Warren continued the operation on his own till 1966. Many items and photos in the Burgess museum was donated by Larry and Laura. Laura continues to compile photos and historical information relating to the airport and to the honored service and sacrifice of Everett Frothingham. We have the freedom to fly today thanks to those who served in the Great War . The Frothinghams also brought uncle John Karahalis, who flew back in the good old days; John is 97! He remembered flying his Fairchild F-24, powered by a Warner engine. If you haven't been to the museum stop by and witness the history in photos and writings. Also stop in and check the restoration and construction of classic and experimental aircraft that is ongoing daily in the working museum in Hangar 1.
This past weekend Bruce Menin brought in some Cub Scouts and chaperons to the aerodrome, where they set up camp and chimineas to brave the cold in order to witness the Leonid meteorite showers. I haven't any feedback yet but I'll keep you posted. Events such as this are in keeping with that part of our mission relating to community and education. Thanks Bruce and Steve and thanks Plum Island Aerodrome Inc.for making it happen.
The Christmas party is scheduled for December 15 at 2:00 PM bring an appetiser or dessert, but come one, come all, to celebrate.
