Camping, rocking and flying at 2B2

Although this blogster has been out of commission for a while, a lot has been going on at the airport. Flying got a break as the monsoons departed for a while. The airport enjoyed the annual skydivers jump on to Plum Island beach led by the dynamic trio of Butch, Dennis, and Tommy. The airfield also welcomed The Cape Cod chapter of The Family Coach Association in July with 46 high line R/V's enjoying four nights of camping and visiting the community. The following comments were received from their president."We spent well,we ate well we bought good sand obtained services from the community".I hope some of the town and city officials read this and understand the significance of the airport to the community. To their credit they left the camping area spotless and are welcome to return anytime.
On Saturday the 23rd of August The Evening of Rock Foundation, with some help from airport regulars, held the first annual outdoor benefit concert at Plum Island Airport.I'm told it was an evening of a well organized happening with good music, featuring the local band "The Brew" good food, provided by Michael's Harborside catering, fine refreshments, provided by Red Hook Brewery and Leary's Fine wine and Spirits. The Parker River Wildlife Refuge and the Plum Island Airfield were the happy beneficiaries of this sold out gathering. Todd Conly is the man who pulled this all together and we congratulate him and his crew for a job well done. Thanks also to the Newburyport Five Cents Savings Bank for their sponsorship as well. The "Five" is an old time friend of the airport and have always stepped up to the plate to help the airport. Scenic rides in the Mescalero and our Glider added to the festive evening. Too bad this couldn't be a monthly event. Enjoy the photos of the event. Coming up Sept 20/21 our annual Birddog/Taildragger Fly-In. Pancake breakfast and all day cookout each day, catered by our great Maine chefs, Dick and "Jughead".
